I found that the easiest way to find a venue was by googling "wedding venues in the Austin Area." I needed a venue that's capacity was over 300, so my options were narrowed REALLY quickly.
My advice
1. Take lots of pictures at each one. You won't remember every detail to each venue and you'll be stuck going back to a venue more than once to try and get a better image.
2. Go to Open Houses! I attended a few. It was helpful seeing the venue all set up. However, if you have A TON of questions, schedule and appointment or two so you get undivided attention.
3. Take someone you trust. Whether it's your fiance or a friend, you'll want someone you know to save you from yourself or from a salesperson. Russell has been to every venue with me at least once! I recruited help from Julie for a couple and my friend Courtney for one! It's helpful to have a girl you can trust that will be honest with you and for the groom to be kept in the loop! :)
4. Think about what YOU want and what your fiance wants. I struggled with this and I ended up in quite the predicament.
5. Listen to your heart, BUT don't let your heart break the bank. If you've been keeping up, my first love (Camp Lucy) was way out of my price range. I tried to make it work three different times but essentially had to have a "come to Jesus" with myself and tell myself: "NO."
6. Sleep on it. Don't make a decision the same day as your first visit. That is, unless your bank account and heart are on the same page.
Here are some pictures from our wedding venue hunting adventures. :)

*This was the only place that I didn't take pictures. I think I was either in awe of it's beauty or my phone was dead. ;)
We chose Memory Lane to start with, mostly because of the amazingly friendly staff, but also because they have lodging for 15 people for the night of the wedding. We're on the hunt again now because of our quite large guest list. We went back to Pecan Springs Ranch in Dripping Springs yesterday and it's definitely a contender. :) We will check out Ma Maison in Dripping Springs this week and then hopefully have a decision again by Friday! :)
